- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)and the people died of hunger in scores by the roadside. A potato named the leather coat was given to the growers by the government. At the time the food which we had here was sent over to England. In exchange that we got over yellow meal.
The food the people had in the year after the Famine was Indian meal, most of this meal being supplied by the government. This was distributed in here and there in district. One of these camps was situated in a field of Mr John Shinnick's, Oldcastletown Kildorrery, Co Cork and it is now known as the "Camp field". A severe sickness followed the Famine and about two and a half million of the people died. There was a temporary hospital in Daniel Daly's land in Springvale Kildorrery Co. Cork.- Bailitheoir
