- Not very long ago when a person died "keeners" attended at the wake, and they cried aloud in a sort of singing voice and recounted the good deeds of the dead person. As a rule there used to be twenty one keeners at a funeral and they followed the hearse in threes "keening". A Mrs. Brown in this locality was a noted keener, and so was a Mrs Flanagan from Strand. The last persons "keened" for in this parish were William Mac Enery of Camas and John O Connor of Glenquin and Michael Green of Rathcahill who died about forty years ago.
