seven years later in 1642 we read of Segrave of Killegland and other lords of the Pale meeting the Confederate Chiefs including Owen Roe O'Neill, nephew of Hugh, on the hill of Crofty, in Meath to discuss the formation of a Confederation which later bore fruit in the Confederation of Kilkenny.
As every one knows Cromwell landed in Ireland in August 1649 and as he came through this country via Finglas and Kilshane it is very likely that Segrave's castle was an object of his fury.
The land on which the castle stood is now owned by Edward Armstrong. In the year 1937 he was digging up the stones when he came across two stone stools. These stools are in Armstrongs at present.
