    The men long ago used to marry the women with fortunes. They would get about £300. They would get the money rolled up in a cloth or an old stocking. The old people would nearly always get married on Wednesday because they used to say that was a lucky day.
    Sometimes the man would get a person to look for a wife for him.
    After the marriage a lot of young fellows would come to the house that night, bandbegging. They would dress up in straw and all sorts of rags and they would go in and dance and they would get as much refeshments as they that would be at the marriage.
