- There are several kinds of coins that were used in olden times. The people used to use farthings and four-penny-bits but they are not used now. The local names on the coins that are in use now are a bull's eye on a three penny bit, a tanner on a sixpence, a bob on a shilling, a sammon on a two-shilling-bit and a half-crown on a two-and-sixpence.
