- Travelling people still call to our home. The same people have been doing so for many years. Most of them are poor. There are two kinds of travelling people - those who go about begging and those who go about selling small articles. Some people buy from them. They obtain their supplies from the nearest big town to them. These travellers are generally welcome if they do not call too often. They never remain at night or bring food with them. The alms they accept are - flour, sugar, milk, tea and many other articles. The poorer of them go about on foot while more who can afford to buy small articles go about on vans and horses. Some of them travel singly and some of them travel in families and bands. The best known of them are, McDonagh's Wards, Brady's, O'Learys, and others. The McDonaghs visit our houses frequently. They come before fairs and during the winter. They come in the winter so that they can get turf. When they camp the local people gather around to hear them telling stories(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
