- The following was collected and transcribed into this book by Daniel Smith Kiltycreevagh, at the time working in VII Standard. He procured it from his father James Smith Kiltycreevagh, who is approximately 48 years.
There was an old school held in Gaigue in an old shed belonging to a man named Reilly. It was held in that shed for two weeks. The teacher who used to teach the children was a man named Nichol from the County Cavan. The pay the teacher used to get was what the children used to bring him. The master stayed in Reillys house. The subjects that were taught to them were reading, writing and arithmetic. The children used to write on slates with slate pencils. The seats they used were old blocks of wood.
