- To make candles, rushes were pulled in a pasture field and were brought home and the green skin was peeled off. The inside part was cut about one foot long and tied in bundles of twelve. They were then put up on a loft in the houses to dry and left there to get firm. Then there was a piece of mettle which was called a "Grisset" and some lard was put in it to melt.
