Long ago the people used to make their living by growing flax. Flax was nearly grown the same way as oats. In the harvest time when it was ripe it was pulled and put in stooks to season. Then it was brought and placed in water in order to soften the fibre and for the seed of the flax to fall off. It was then left there in the water for a couple weeks. Next it was taken out of the water and spread on the grass to dry. It was then tied up into sheaves again. Next it was placed on hurdles over fires in order to dry thoroughly.
