    About the year 1882, the farmers were in very bad circumstances and could pay nothing so a general eviction was ordered. The Parish Priest at that time, Fr. John Brady (who died in Belturbet) was a very staunch Irishman and he was determined to prevent the eviction. He organised the men of the parish and they were all to come ot the proposed scenes of eviction where a drum was beaten. The morning of the eviction came and a drummer was early at work going from hill top to hill top rousing the people. It is estimated that there were six hundred people present when the bailiff and the police arrived. They came on the first house where they were met by Fr. Brady who stood on the door step. Fr. Brady asked what was the amount of the rent. He was informed
    "Here it is" says he, holding a bunch of notes aloft, "but give me a receipt first".
    "I'll five you an acknowledgement" says the bailiff.
