- The local fairs are held in Ballyjamesduff. They are always held in the town. During the Great War buyers often transacted business in the country at cross-roads or at the farm houses. This is not done now. Fairs were often held which have now been discontinued, because there were public houses at the cross-roads and people would get drink on a fair day and cause a lot of trouble and disturbance, so they had to be stopped.There are not any local traditions of fairs being held on hills or in the neighbourhood of castles or forts. The town fair is held in the streets. There is no toll paid on cattle that are sold. Luck money is given when an animal is sold and it is called a "luck penny." When the bargain is made the animals are marked and that shows that the agreement is made. They are marked with coloured paint or sometimes there is a mark put(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
