- The locals fairs are held in Ballyjamesduff, but sometimes the cattle are sold before they reach the fair, because there are always buyers on the roads, and sometimes they are bought at home.
My father does not know if the fairs were held in any places unless in the towns, and he does not know if they were held at forts or castles. The fairs are held in the streets. Toll is paid, threepence for cattle and sixpence for horses, we do not know to whom it is paid.
When an animal is sold money is given to the buyer for luck, it is called a "Luck Penny". When the bargain is made they hit each other's hands to seal the bargain.
