    Long ago on St. Martins day three gangs of men in three boats said they would go out and in spite of anybody and that they would fish St. Martin himself if they met him. Out they went in there three boats and began to fish. When they had gone out a while on the sea a man appeared to them standing on the water and waved his hand towards the land. Only one boat went in and the other two boats were drowned.
