  1. A shoeblack asked a young man if he wanted his boots cleaned. The man said no. Only a penny sir said the boy but the young man again refused.
    Then the boy offered to clean them for nothing if the man would allow him. He agreed to this, and soon one boot was shining brightly.
    The man then put his other boot on the box to have it cleaned too. But the shoeblack refused to clean unless he was paid twopence for his trouble.
    The man refused to pay anything and walked off. But the well cleaned boot made the muddy one look far worse than ever, and the man felt ashamed of one boot being
