    iron. Long ago blacksmiths used to make pins and nails. There are two smiths in this parish, John Mc Nicholas in Tavna and Tom Smith in Blanemore. John Mc Nicholas's father was a smith also and he made the first bicycle that was ever in Straid from timber and iron.
