    and McDonnell is the commonest name. Long ago they were about three hundred houses in the town but they were small thatched one storey houses. The houses that are in Ballycastle now are big slated ones.
    There are not many old people in the town but they are a few who speak the vernacular. Johnny McDonnel is one of the few and he is very good at telling old stories in English or Irish. There is fairly good land in the parish of Ballycastle.
