  1. One of the local Landlords was a Miss Gardiner who lived in Farmhill Kilfian.
This family lived in the district for generations. Miss Gardiner was said to be one of the worst Landlords living. It is said that she took a cruel delight in evicting poor people. She often had a whole townland evicted in one day. Some of the evicted people emmigrated to America and some of them built huts on the mountain side. The Landlords ancestors took the land by force from the Irish people. The land was not divided into farms under her guidance because people were evicted. The farmers were compelled to give one tenth of their crops to the tithe gatherers. Fierce battles were ofter fought between the people and tithe gatherers. At this time the young men of the district planned to kill some of the landlords.
