    and hundreds of people enjoying themselves, feasting, dancing and singing. After a while the music stopped and out comes, from the middle of the people, a beautiful lady dressed with gold robes followed by some small people who said "We have Barney Dearg here tonight and he is the most hard hearted man in the village. The lady looked vexed and said "let him be thrown into the lake outside the wood" Barney got into a terrible state with these people and as they advanced to take him away he gave one cry and then he knew no more.
    When morning came he found himself at the foot of the hill, and so the hill is called after him. It is said that afterwards he was always bright and cheerful
