    loud rap at the door. The prince told them to go into the next room; he went down to the door and opened it, and killed the giant with one stab of the knife.
    The children heard a terrible scream and they saw the hounds of the wood of the darkness eating up the witch. They asked the prince to bring them home, so he brought them through the wood of darkness and out through the door in the elm-tree. So they reached home safely.
