- Marriages usually take place before Lent. On Shrove Tuesday people got married at ten o'clock. If poor people had no money to buy the ring, the priest married them with the key of the Chapel door.
It is said that "if married in blue sure to be true", "married in green sure to be seen", "married in grey live far away", "married in black sure to come back". "married in yellow ashamed of your fellow". "married in white you are a pretty sight", "married in brown life out of town," "married in red you wish yourself dead."
It is also said that if married on Monday married for health, married on Tuesday married for wealth. Married on Wednesday the best day of all, Thursday for losses, Friday for crosses, and Saturday no luck at(continues on next page)- Collector
