    Once upon a time there was a man who was very fond of visiting . . .

    All the brighted lights ever he saw were on the altar. When the mass was ended the priest said to him that he had promised to say one mass before he would die and he could not go to heaven until he would say it. He told the man that he could go to heaven now and he would pray for him. So the man went on his way home and all the lights disappeared.

    Once upon a time there was a man who was very fond of card playing . . .

    Once upon a time there was a man who was very fond of card playing and who used to be out at all hours of the night. One night there was to be a great game of cards so he went to the house where the card playing was to be and it was about two o'clock in the morning when he was coming home. he had to come a long way but he was not afraid.
