    I heard this story from Patrick Mannion, Kilcreevanty, who is over 70 years of age. Marriages in olden times would be arranged by somebody suggesting that such a boy and girl was a suitable match. If both sides would be agreeable a date would be appointed to meet in the nearest market town and the dowry or fortune would be arranged according to the circumstances of the parties. The priest would be consulted and the day of their marriage would be arranged. It was usual for the poorer classes to walk to the chapel at a fixed hour for the marriage and also walk to the Bridegrooms house. THe guests of both sides would run a race as
