  1. There are many holy wells in this place. There is a well in the village of Ahascragh, Co. Galway. There are many cures in that well and the people go there every year in July. Sir John Ros Mahon stopped the people from going to the well as he closed it up with the result that his house was flooded. He was told by many people that his house would never be dry unless he opened the well so he opened the well and the water left the house.
