    the time or carry a burning sod out of the house was supposed to bring the butter with them. This was done very much when matches were only a luxury for the rich and a new sod of turf was always put in the fire by the person who took the live coal. Any young person churning who splashed out the cream very much would be supposed to marry a drunkard. A churn was never lent in the old days and was kept out of the view of possible "evil eyes."
