In 1813 there was a fight called the “Battle of Ranney”. There were five lives lost. It was on a fair day, the 8th July. It was started between a man and a woman. The woman’s name was Duffy and the man’s name was Alcorn. The woman had a bunch of flowers and the man had a burden of grass. As he was passing he smelt the flowers. She hit him with her umbrella. He turned round and gave her a kick and that was how the fight started.
Two of the McConagley’s were killed. They were father and son. One of them was stuck and the other was hit with a stone. Two of the [McConnels]? and one of the Alcorn’s were also killed.
