    from the milk. The housewife then "scaulds" her hands and prepares the "coop" (a small wooden vessel used for taking the butter from the milk)
    The children wait patiently for the period and as soon as the butter is taken away they start themelves to churn the milk again and each get a cup of "peddlers cream (cream of the buttermilk)
    There are many old sayings attached to churning and some of them are:- If you enter a house in which a churning is proceeding you cannot leave without giving a "bresh"
    No one should take a coal from the fire to light his pipe or he will cause the butter to "go back".
    Our churn is three feet high one and a half wide at the mouth and nearly two feet wide at the bottom. The sizes differ. Some churns are small others are large. The churns are not made by anyone around here and have to to bought in Carndonagh or Derry.
