    They are then left to grow and when they get large enough they are sprayed to keep away the "blight". Some farmers think it better not to spray their potatoes because when a sprayed potato is peeled and left aside it turns blue-black in colour while the unsprayed one does not.
    When the month of October comes and the tops have withered a band of men are employed and the potatoes are dug. The greater part of the crop is put into "pits" in order to keep them fresh until the following summer. The others are put into the barn and used as they are required.
