    14 stacks of oats. This thrashing was done by the strength of man's arm, not by the thrashing machine as is used in most places now. The farmer thrashed all his own oats by means of a flail. This flail was composed of three parts, the handlestaff the bolteen and thug. The handlestaff was about 4 feet long, the bolteen was about 3 feet, the thug was used to tie them together. This thug was made of eel skin, being so tough was the most durable tying to be found. There the thrasher bids good morrow.
    Leaning on his heavy flail. To the milk maid as she cometh,
