The following story was told to me by my father who is 45 years of age.
Long ago there was a man named John Moran who was living in Ballyline. He used to be out late everynight playing cards at Mr. Scannlan's house. He got a fright one night but that did not stop him from playing cards.
On the 10th of April in the year 1803 John Moran stayed out until four o'clock in the morning. When he was up near Lavery's house he heard music and a queer sound. The thing approached and the man did not get afraid. He thought it was a horse but as it drew nearer he knew that it was a "puca". The "puca" asked the man would he like to go on his back for a ride but the man did not want to go but the puca
