    devil a word out of Mat no more then he was stuck. We went in & oat down a 'hate'. Not a word out of Mat. Bye & bye I said Mat it you're going home I'll come with you Dont be afraid, boy. When we got to [?] bounds I hops up on the ditch. When I looks around there is no sign of Mat. Ware are you? says I & I puts out my hand. He caught my hand & I pulled him up on the ditch after me. He was like a feather in my hands - as light as a feather & so small that I could scarcely see him.
    On we goes until we were into the middle of the house field. "I am all right now, says he. 'Twas the first word he spoke since we left the road. I am all right now, says he & you can go home. If you are afraid says I I'll come with you & put you in the bed.
    I turned back with Mat. It was then I got afeared. Every hair stood on my head, but I could see nothing. I could feel the presence but could see nothing
