- Long ago before there was ever a town or village in Ireland there were cattle grazing where people now throng. Each evening the cows came home to be milked and made a path across the fields. Later to facilitate travel stones were put on these paths. They were then called boreens. As the use of horses and carts became more common the boreens were made wider and had to be kept in repair. The oldest road in my home district is one leading from Rockcorry by Cremoyle, Loyst, Urcher Urblekirk to Monaghan.
