  1. There is about half an acre of potatoes grown on our farm every year. The ground is ploughed with an iron plough, then it is harrowed and farmyard manure is spread on the ridges. The potatoes are cut, there must be an eye in each seedling. They are dropped in rows about nine inches apart. The women and small boys drop the potatoes in most parts. The en cover the ridges with soil which they lift with a shade. The spades are made in McMahons Factory, Clones and ae sold in the local shops. They cost three shillings each.
    No wooden ploughs are used in this district now, they were in use ten years ago.
