- ShopsLong ago shops were not as plentiful as they are today. About fifty years ago a man called Joe Mulligan owned a shop at Corranny. On mart day he took a donkey to the town and bought goods. Next day he would go round the district selling them. In houses where money was scarce he would get eggs in exchange for his goods.A woman and a young boy (owned) called Johnstons owned a shop at Lisrace. They went to town with a big basket and next day they went round the district selling, tea, sugar, tobacco, and sometimes leather for the shoe-maker to make boots when he would come round. The shops were not used for selling food because the farmers grew or made all their food at home.Told by Mrs Maguire, Fermanagh Street, Clones
