- There is a rath in Murphy's field in Ballyveria. It is circular in shape and the fence round it is built of stone A man one night saw fire rising from the centre of this Rath. There is also a rath in Ryan's field in Darbystown. This is also circular in shape and has a spring of water in the centre. There is also a rath in Woodse's field in Darbystown and this too is in the shape of a circle. All these raths are supposed to have been a kind of trenches built by the Danes. They were very deep at first but they have filled up and have almost closed since then.(continues on next page)
