The farmers in this district set aboout an acre of potatoes every year. First they dig the ground into ridges. Then they put holes in the ground with a steeven.A man comes and drops the splits into the holes. Another man follows him with a mallet and covers the splits. The potatoes the farmers set. are usually, Champions, Kerr-Pinks, Aran-banners,and Flounders.They then spread the manure on the ridges. They put mould on the manure then, and after a few weeks when the stalks begin to grow, they put more mould on the ridges.Thomas Caslin, Ruskey,
