My granaunt Mrs Kate Fox of New Ruskey told me the following story.
She said one night her son Tom was coming home from a fair. It as a very dark night, as he walked along he came to a little bush, and under it he saw a little man fixing boots.
The little man asked him for a penny and he said he would change it into a lump of gold for him, and that he would never be poor again. Tom gave him a penny and the little man told him to look at the lovely lady by his side. The boy turned to look and when he turned again the little man was gone.Lily Robinson,
