  1. Up to Sixty or seventy years ago the principal food of the people was potatoes and sour milk. This was proved the years of the famine when the potato crop failed and the people died of hunger. They often did a hard morning's work while the potatoes were boiling. Then they came in and the pot of potatoes was put up on the middle of the table - or on a skiff on the floor and all sat around them and eat enough with salt and a basin of sour milk. Then they had the same for dinner and again for supper so that with the majority of people they had potatoes and
