  1. SCRAITHÍN'S
    Long ago people had an old fashioned way of sowing new potatoes. They called these new potatoes "Scraitín"s on account of the way they were sown.
    The farmer selected a corner of a sunny field usually one with a good tough sod on it. He dug the sod out and in the place where the sod was they put in the "Sciollaín". and some manure. Then he covered the Sciolláin with the sods taken out and they were allowed to grow until the stalks appeared. Then a trench was dug and the "Scraithíns" earthed.
