    that the Baile ’n Chalaidh crew were gone, of course they wouldn’t let it go with them, so east they went and shoved a boat of their own and away with them after the first boat. The Baile ’n Chalaidh boat got their first and they had a tow rope out of her, and when the Cill Mhichíl crowd came up, the Baile ’n Chalaidh crew wouldn’t allow them to come near her so they wouldn’t have any claim on her.
    There were Coastguards around the coast at that time. They were there to prevent smuggling, or if any raic came in with the tide they’d mark it, and no one could touch it then. There were four of them and an officer stationed in the Mines. The Officer came over when he heard about this French boat, and he went out near the Mouth of the Sound near Oileán na Naomh. He raised some white flag or made some signal and the Cill Mhichíl crew saw him. They came down and he asked them would they put him out to the smack. They said they would, and they told him how they wouldn’t get any tow-rope. They went up anyway and he talked to the crew of the French-Boat from his own boat, and then he told them to
