- 1. Chilblains - (a) Roast onions on the fire, and apply them when hot, when retiring.
(b) Bathe the feet in snow water, dry them, apply paraffin oil to the chilblains, and dry in front of the fire.
(c) Bathe the feet in water in which potatoes have been boiled.
2. Warts - (a) Rub them with washing soda, till they wear away.
(b) Wash the warts with the water taken from the hole in any stone accidentally found. If told where the stone is, the cure will not work.
(c) Evil minded people place the same amount of stones as warts into a paper bag, and put the latter at three cross roads. The first person to lift the bag, will take the warts.
(d) Bury a piece of fresh meat in manure, without being seen doing so. As the meat rots, the warts wither.
3. Nettle Stings - Apply a Dock Leaf to the blisters.
4. Bleeding - A cob-web placed on the wound will stop the bleeding.
5. Whooping Cough - Put a spider in a nut-shell, and suspend round the neck, next to the skin. As the spider withers, the cough disappears.
6. Wild-fire - Make a ring with ink around the rash.
7. Sprains - Cold water poured from a height on the sprain, will give immediate relief.
8. Cuts - Dock leaf ground finely in the mouth, and applied to cut will prevent festering.- Informant
