    The present fairs are carried on in the streets, and luck-money is given on the sold cattle accord to the money given by the buyer. For instance five shillings may be given on ten pounds, and the toll is six pence a head on old cattle, and three pence a head on young cattle, and about six pence on a bonham.
    When a buyer comes up and asks a man now how much he wants for the cattle. Then they argue for a time making a bargain, and the matter is settled by striking hands and saying "The bargain is made and cannot be broken."
    When the animals are sold they are always marked with paint, or mud, or by clipping their hair. It is not a custom to give away the halter with any animal when sold except with a bull his snafle and halter are also given with him.
