  1. About twenty years ago two boats went out from Askeaton to f go fishing on the river Shannon. It was a lovely calm day when they started to go out. When they went out beyond Beigh one boat went more to the Clare side. They were no time after casting their nets when they were full of fish. When all of a sudden the water got rough and the storm arose. The boat at the Clare owned by John Sullivan with another companion named John Sheahan were struggling hard to keep afloat. The owners of the other boat cut their nets from their boats, they shouted to John Sullivan to cut their nets also, but when they looked again Sullivan's boat was drowned. The owner of the second boat was James Corbett and his nephew John Nash. They were drifted in the direction of Ringmoyle quay. They stripped themselves of their clothing expecting their boat would crash against the quay John Nash jumped out when nearing the shore he grabbed the boat and their lives were saved. The other boat was got in a few days at Augnish point and John Sullivans body was found somewhere near Foynes but Sheahan was never found. There is only one left to tell the tale and that is present John Nash William St ASkeaton Co Limerick.
