A time there was when this reclusive homestead meant to me,
The center of all joy and bliss - my soul's vitality,
Beside the house, a dainty garden, prettily designed,
Was bordered with a lattice 'round which rambling roses twined.

Odorous flowers bedecked its beds with different shapes and dyes,
Diffusing delicate fragrances when disturbed by west winds' sighs,
In summer time, the hawthorn tree within the garden filled,
The air with ambrosial balm it clustered bloom distilled.

In Starmount, stood a monument that marked historic ground
The ruin of a castle, by antiquity renouned.
In stately pose, its lofty piers rose solemn and serene,
Their age-old greyness masked beneath a cape of ivy green.
