  1. Occasionally through the year a very small egg will be found in the nests. It was called a forthnal by the old people. And they considered that the hen would not lay for some time.
    They are usually given to children to play with. Sometimes one would drop on an egg with a soft shell which bends in and out as you touch it and it is called a boogan and it is said to be caused by the want of grit in the lime that the fowl pick up.
    Sometime again you get a very large egg. This is found to have a double yolk, and women who are setting eggs under hatching hens never cared for the very large eggs
