    One stormy Winter's evening
    Being drenched quite wet with rain,
    A traveller in a lordly hall,
    Did wearily complain : -
    "My feet are sore, I've journey'd far Along a pebley road,
    I've come to seek for a night's rest, To your princely abode.
    II
    The Landlord said : - "For such as you my hall affords no cheer,
    The weary worn traveller
    Need never enter here ;
    Its portals ever open are
    To scions of noble blood,
    But bit or sup to hungry poor
    I never yet have stood.
