- Some years ago, a man lived in this district whose name was James O'Dwyer. He was a strong man but he was very poor.
Once a man in Kilrush heard of his strength and in order to test it, he offered him a sack of flour, if he carried home on his back. This was a journey of about ten miles. The man told James that he may take two rests, but not to take the flour off his back. James took the flour, and he only took one rest.
