- (continued from previous page)In the digging of the potatoes the women gathered the very large potatoes and kept them for "stampy" This was made by grating the potatoes very fine and mixing a little flour with it and baking in an oven or griddle. They had also potatoes-cakes which were very wholesome. The bread they had was made from rye, or wheat or barley of finemeal. They ground their corn at home by round stones which they called quearns.
