Long ago in our district mass was said in the tannery in Mullingar in the penal days.
At the back of it there was a small narrow passage. Each side of the passage there was a big hedge. The priest stole down there and said mass for the people.
There was a "mass bush" in Voiletstown, Mullingar where the priests also offered mass during the Penal Times.
