He gave him the note and the young man looked at it very carefully and said in a low tone this is my fathers writing. And how it came to be in your possession is what puzzles me and moreover I never suspected for a moment that my father was murdered. We all came to the conclusion that he fell down stairs and broke his neck. Now if I am to believe this story I may at once have this man arrested and brought to court. But there is one thing you will have to do for me before we part. You will have to come with me to the police station and tell the seargant the same story you told me more than that we cannot do. The traveller accompanied the young man to the station and related his story to the seargant. The seargant listened attentively to every word. The traveller told him but did not tell about the note. The seargant paused for a while and then looked at both men straight into the face and he said at the time of this mans death was it not known(continues on next page)
