The Officers were in a house in which Mr. Jacob Francis now lives.While they were halted Myles Byrne went up to Father Kearns and said it would be wise to put some men on a hill on the other side of the town in case of any attack from that point. He told Myles Byrne that all was well and said "Tell all under your command that while I have this whip in my hand the yeomen will never hold the town". Father Kearns was trying to dislodge a man named Mr. Maxwell from a house on the Square which is now the Parochial House. Myles Byrne told Father Kearns that it was loss of time. However they succeeded in driving out the yeomen and got possession of the town.As the defeated yeomen fled out of the town they met a body of the Militia coming to their aid. They decided to return and try to recapture the town. As Myles Byrne's advice had not been followed no one saw this move on the part of the enemy.In less than an hour the yeomen returned and finding the Patriots scattered(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
